SUMMARY
Stiff pace and field well spread by halfway. Leading pair followed by Line of Three with even winner Big Issue niggled at times and leaders made a notable kick around halfway. Second rank of 3 up to 3L off the lead. Gap back to 6-7th at halfway and this pair visibly under pressure and close to being driven along. Big gap back to the four stragglers left behinf by the kick and these four between 11-15L off the lead.
Slower time and lower Ratings despite a wide Margin win an indication of how the pace broke the race up. BIssue able to survive the pace well enough at 3L back at halfway to finish the race off. But, three of the horses under 20/1 blew themsevles up setting and chasing the pace so the winner going away from tired opponents. The other was adrift at halfway and too green to even close up a little. A set-up which produced the peculiar 2nd-4th finishers, all at 33/1, well back from the winner (jockey sitting quietly and jogging home) and the 'Closers' hauling themselves past the tired pace pressers late on.
Very interesting race to see how the Form develops. Way the race broke up allowed Closers that appear 'Eyecatching' but not achieving high ratings. Long SPs for reps from bigger stables because the winner such a short price so might be ok types having 'Edicational Intros' but still be ok maiden winning types. Pair in 2nd & 3rd both seem ok prospects for example but see how they go. Glanusk managed to get from the adrift group to a going on 4th which would normally mean he is ok for Open Maiden competitor. Slight curve ball as he was the 2nd string for trainer Beckett to Farlow who was too green to get involved and given a quiet time by jockey Crowley. Looked more of a 7f+ galloper. But, the four that pressed the pace and faded to various degrees will probably produce ok winners. BM hase shown a enough to win around OR74. SMorant talked up by trainer and his 2yos not really in top form so might develop. Basilica promising on debut and could treat this run as a seond debut after a long break. Could well improve notably next time. Sort of race where the future winners might come from anywhere. See how the overall quality develops but 'feels' like it producing leter winners (say 4+) would be ok despite the rating.
