Heavy rain during meeting and slower time. Usual caveats about form on Softer going but this looked a Serious race at the front end. Overall Shape of the result looks Ok with two Better Profile Types pulling away Strongly form an above average with Godolphin newcomer (GB) in third. 4-6th made up of horses with previous runs and all are presumably OR70s types at least. Outclassed by the first two home as two bigger types, with efficient, straight movement and professional atttitudes pulled clear. Would presume the first two are up to competing at the front end of Group races (certainly on softer going). Circumstantials add some weight to the view. Frankel well related and shorter Cecil SP and a trainer who knows how good his horses are before they run (Despite the 'hardly galloped him..' misdirection when briefly interviewed post-race). You could add in that the connections are not going to name a horse in memory of the recently deceased US trainer who ends up scuffling about in Northern maidens. Gosden debuts that win are usually Listed+ class and he often batches the good ones up. Leaving out his second string in this race his debut runners in the last 7 days have produced 3 wins, a 4th and Nathaniel's 2nd here. This effort would have won many maidens and you presume Questioning, Morning Charm & Treasury Devil (the FTO winners in the last week) are all pretty good. Go back to 2009 and he introduced High Twelve, Pounced & Azmeel as three consecutive debuts over a week. Once a good one appears always worth taking more notice of the next few. On pedigree Nathaniel is a sibling of 3 x Group winners and a number of other useful types so the overall picture looks 'right' to take a positive view of the front of the race. |
