Going Stick = Far Side 7.9, Centre 7.2 & Stands Side 7.8. Medium strength Half Tailwind. Stalls Far Rail but field cut diagonally across the course to be racing on the Stands' Rail after 1.5f. Trainer Prescott interviewed after the race and said he had been telling jockey Sanders to do the wrong thing holding her up. Better here for being allowed to lead and able to control down the pace down the preferred rail (some sort of advantage). Felt he had made the wrong decision in dropping her to 5f only 5 days ago and she had got a but early after being held up and never got started. But, he had declared her for this race the morning of that race and let her take her chance because that race had been a wash-out. Kept repeating his belief that she was 'only a 2yo' who needed fast ground and would be unlikely to train on so they might as well run her a lot now. Margot Did found traffic problems getting her run along the rail or woud probably have won. Considering her last three goes in Group races would have you thinking about what makes the difference between one of the small group of Elite jockeys and one of the next tier of highly competent ones. Foreseeing problems and adapting before they happen would be one (which Spencer often fails to do) and not much evidence of that here. You kind of think that Hughes in his Goodwood 'Top Form' would have got 1 or 2 wins in those three goes. Maqaasid sweaty and buzzy and look more of a 2yo against the bigger types in the group. Ran too freely and failed to stay. |
