SUMMARY

This was the 7th race at the distance this season. Most on going with 'GF' in somewhere. The win for Cae Shen took the total for front-runners (first through halfway) to 6 of the 7 races with the other showing minor changes in the 3rd through just beating the 2nd through. This race followed the typical pattern. Settled down quickly to the 'Triers' at the front early and a straggle back of mostly newcomers. Nothing happens until 2F out and then we get a demonstration of how difficult it is to run anything down in a short sprint up the Sandown hill. Little changes in position other than some progress on the Far Rail (often a positive) from Arc Light.
Given the strong advantage of a particular Run Style you wounder why there is not more pressure to get to the front early? As ever, the Hannon team (assisted by thinking jockeys like Hughes & Dobbs) have (re-)learnt this bias and are working it. They have won the last 2 races here at the distance with similar runs. They have also won the only 8.1f race at the track so far this season with a soft lead front-run by Jehanbux (who was the runner who was second through halfway and just overhauled in the only 7.1f race not to have gone to the front-runner).
