Typical race around the sharp bend here. Prominent racing an advantage and difficult to make ground on leader (s) given a comfortable time. Race split into two early depending upon break and how well the horses got going. First 4 through halfway within 2L of the lead and DAffair less than 1L back after a good start but held back a little to avoid being hung out wide on the bend. Last 4 at 4.5L to 7L back and out of the race barring a pace war and the leaders collapsing. Solid effort in the conext of the race for DA to make the ground up int he short straight and had looked better than an OR65 filly but struggled to see 5f out before. Four of the field ran in a 5f nursery at Goodwood LTO and different result here and a good example of how different courses, draws and starts can mix things up. JH broke well at Goodwood and led and only caught by the clear winner. A slow start here and getting behind before the bend and his best weapon (early pace) was gone and an anonymous midfield effort. Stick him back at Catterick with a good draw on firm going and after a fast start he would look a different horse. RStone a free runner that fades but able to be held up in 9th at Goodwood and finish the rac eoff to be placed and going forward late one. Slow start wide here then running freely followed by hanging on the sharp bend and then fading as before. Unrecognisable from his last run. TDawn reliable and ran similar race both times. Just behind the pace but unable to raise any later race effort to make places. DA poorly drawn at Goodwood and ran on wrong strip of ground and given a non-involving ride. Able to show today what she is actually capable of when finishing a race off. Put her in a trickier spot and she could be fading before the finish again. |
