SUMMARY
Slow time and field went Centre to Far side in the straight. Hughes gave another stalking ride and made progress into the last 1f and waiting to make final effort late on. Only wanting to do enough to just win.
A race where you can get sucked into seeing 'Promise' in a lot of the horses if you look too hard. A version of 'They cannot all be Good (promising)' kicks in and worth thinking that the 3rd+ were miles behind the first two in a slow time. The first two include a 40/1 newcomer and finishing clear with a useful Hannon horse is going to kill VM's handicap mark. This sort of debut for trainer Cole often and OR71-75 type and borderline for a maiden win type.
Trying to look more clearly at the beaten horses (and not going all 'Nick Luck' and thinking they are all imminent winners of a 'Small Race' (copyright)) then WOnBy is a cheaper one for a reliable outfit. Given a very quiet time suggesting they think he is not up to winning a maiden so is being protected to get a workable OR for nurseries. Trainer good at working this.
DBluebells runs for a more 'quirky' trainer and often difficult to see how the career progression works. Showed something here in dropping off the back for no good reason after a solid start but then plugging on back towards the front of the ruck. But difficult to know how she will run NTO.
LesV showed enough to suggest trainer will develop him for a win. But likely to be at 3yo and she has not had a 2yo winner. PCharlie dropped back to 6f after not staying a slow 7f on debut. One of the few to get properly involved and kicked his effort off too early and made the joint second best forward move. Faded a bit early again but perhaps worth seeing how he can do on better ground and with a less active ride.
