£10k Bonus Race. Slow pace and winner able to get away with controlling the race with little hastle and turn it into a 2f+ sprint. Split of triers for the day and green ones (or setting up handicap marks) meant little opposition for MOTM. But for the Johnston horse DRoom being hustled forward the winner would have been able to jog around on his own until the last 1f. Without the Johnston horses a lott of races in the North would have even less pace. MOTM definite OR80s type and might be a little better. Showed a good attitude here and apparently an easy horse to deal with at home (the trainer said he could let a child into the horse's box at home without worrying). But a competitive spirit in him and always looking back at the horse alongside him and wanting to keep him behind. Most notable in the last 1f where the horse helped the jockey and enabled him to hold off RR by a neck without having to be pressed for all his effort. Likeable type that can rate higher. Halfway positions to final placings tell the story of a pretty static race with a short sprint off a slow pace. Lack of pace shows up with newcomer SNom blowing the break and being 10L adrift but able to get onto the back of the group before halfway without emptying himself for the 2f efforts In tha context another good run by RR to make 2L on the winner and press him to the line. A slow start go him into midfield initially. Cure that and an OR80+ type with a strong finish so one to support in the right set-up. Perignon has been seller declared but a NR for a trainer who knows how good his horses are. Perhaps he has improved and was always borderline for dropping to a seller anyway. He was given a 3TO ride here and trying not to get too close to the first two (tricky given the slow pace) to get a usable OR for a 4TO nursery. Perhaps the seller entry was a bit of misdirection to try to affect the OR thinking. DRoom unable to match 2f efforts of first two and started hanging left before 1F out and this got bad enough for the jockey to pack it in by 0.5f out. CS lacks pace and this sort of race set-up no good for him and his second place STO was poor form in retrospect and he presumably needs lesser quality race and a stiffer test to plod on into faders. Monel another given a 3TO ride and also seems to lack pace for a sprint like this. Worth checking to see if he goes up in trip in a nursery and down in quality. |
