Lingfield AW race has stiff pace shock. A fascinating race of it's type with the Pace and where the horses slotted in crucial to the possible range of their finishing positions. Only minor changes within that race Template depending upon the horse's basic pace and how efficiently they ran the earlier parts of the race to preserve their later race efforts. Three pace forcers produced an extended effort (2F in total and free runners at the end of it when positions normally set by 0.5f to 1f at the latest. between them to sort out the lead and that sort of effort always does for anything involved. Which meant Fallon & Ajtebi on Memorabilia & Rutterkin had done for their mounts despite getting to the lead and free-runner MissMoney help to extend this process. The midfield getting in each others' way after 2.5f and taking the held up horses further back off the leaders stretched the field to the point where the hold up horses had too much ground to make up despite the pace. Which meant the winner should come from the 4th-7th set behind the pace pressers and ahead of the shemozzle. Fallon kicking the final efforts off before 2F out ensured the race produced the expected pattern in the straight. The 3 pressing leaders fading in order with Rutterkin the last to go 1f out and finishing tired. Spartic & MMissile together at around 2.5f out and at the line but got there by different routes. Spartic able to raise a forward effort at 2f out and attack the leader and inherit the lead when that one expired. But very tired late on and MMissile who had lost 3L on him as he made his effort nearly got back to head him on the line. She was tiring and RRascal closing her down. Behind them a gap to a group of hold up horses steaming home but from too far back. The Pace of the race slowly pulling the field 'inside out' but the lengthways stretch too much here, with the pace stiff but not frantic, to get the hold up horses involved. Which is worth thinking about when a hold up jockey manages to win a race here. In most races they have put the horse out of the race by dropping it to the rear. Odd races will allow a closer to get to the front because of the Pace bias (and perhaps a Centre track Concrete Strip, discuss). And Spencer/Baker et al will be lauded for their brilliance at judging pace. While sweeping the endless races where their horse never got back to midfield because of the pace under the carpet. |
