Stalls Far Rail. Field race Centre to Far Side to halfway and spread out in final 2f+. 1st three home ended up Closer to Stands Side with winner furthest across (probably advantage). GG a comfortable lead as only runner with experience and allowed to dictate in slower race. Rare FTO win for trainer Charlton with LL and debuts wins used to be better ones. But the quality of this race means she might just have been the best of an average to moderate group. Abergeldie unable to match efforts of first two and looked smaller in height and less athletic. But, given an easy time as typical for trainer. Other three jockeys allowed a stupid split to occur by halfway and they were 3-4L behind the other three despite the slow pace. Had no chance to compete in that set up but nothing to not int he efforts they did make. Last two green and fading after minor efforts. 3 inches of Rain at the Course in the previous week and 1 inch since the declarations made. Three 7f maidens for 2yos on day with two Divisions of this Fillies' race. Originally 21 declarations (1 above the 20 horse limit) and so two Divisions. But, many NRs and only 12 fillies spread across two divisions in the end and two unsatisfactory races. Evidence during the day that the Stands' Side was faster than the Far Side. The two fillies races ran mostly towards the far rail with Div I faster by 1.4 seconds. The males' race spread out wider and the first two home were on the Centre-Stands side strip (having been 4-6th going nowhere towards the last 1f with the Far Side runners looking likely to win but then fading notably. Might have been the pace on the rain softened ground causing the issue but presume some effect from the strips of track run on. The males race run in 1.15 seconds faster than the quicker fillies' race. All carried same weight. |
