Stalls Far Side and field stayed towards Far Side. Slow Pace and race developed in 2f sprint, at most. Majority of jockeys happy to bumble home and difficult to pick out the aulity in the 2nd-5th finishers. Presume winner showing something to pull clear despite the overall poor form level. 3 inches on Rain at the Course in the previous week and 1 inch since the declarations made. Three 7f maidens for 2yos on day with two Divisions of this Fillies' race. Originally 21 declarations (1 above the 20 horse limit) and so two Divisions. But, many NRs and only 12 fillies spread across two divisions in the end and two unsatisfactory races. Evidence during the day that the Stands' Side was faster than the Far Side. The two fillies races ran mostly towards the far rail with Div I faster by 1.4 seconds. The males' race spread out wider and the first two home were on the Centre-Stands side strip (having been 4-6th going nowhere towards the last 1f with the Far Side runners looking likely to win but then fading notably. Might have been the pace on the rain softened ground causing the issue but presume some effect from the strips of track run on. The males race run in 1.15 seconds faster than the quicker fillies' race. All carried same weight. |
