Hmm, a middle-of-the-road bit of disposing of barely (and Non) Group class fillies by a bigger one that got a soft lead that should be seen as such. The Pundits tendency to use Race Classes and Groups as a stand-in for doing some thinking about quality in evidence. Before the race the punditry included people going on endlessly about TT 'going up in class' and how would she cope? But, she was not up in class at all and had the best form for an easy romp in a maiden where she showed something different zipping about. In this race she looked more workmanlike because she set a slow pace and turned the race into a 2f sprint. Jockey Dwyer was happy just to maintain the head-start the others had given him and a regulation trundle home with minor changes of position. She did it comfortably but did not advance our knowledge about what she can do when 'let loose' on better going one little bit. But after the race trainer Meehan re-confirmed his view she was a Group 1 class filly and a 3yo prospect. She goes to a short price in the 1,000 Guines market more on the strength of the hype than a rational look at this race. When does beating Masaya (beaten in a nursery off OR72 LTO) by 2L+ when she was more than 3L behind your soft lead at halfway make you better than before. Now, on what she showed in the maiden win she is much better than this but keep some perspective and don't drag everything behind here into being superior because of this, compressed, result. |
