Auden a bad favourite on a non-competitive, volunteer, 2nd place in a broken Newmarket maiden FTO. Might well have been just on the wrong side of the Changeover Point in that race. Third best horse here and would be beaten by Enlightening over anything up to 6.7f and by the winner over 7f+. Enlightening got a comfortable lead by running freely throughout. But produced a strong burst inside 2f out and you would think could win back at 6f on that. Wears a cross-noseband which is rare for Hannon to use and often indicates a hard puller. Taller type and use his upright neck carriage to try to escape the Noseband effect. RBehaviour improved the newcomer's record at the track this season (already in profit before this race). Wittering on about Brighton not being a track for debut runners is just wrong. If you get the right quality then the newcomers can win. With Godolphin, Johnston, Brittain and others using the track now you would expect to see more FTO wins. Many races in the past have been thirdsstrings from Hannon and Channon taken on by the odd newcomer from smaller stables. That set-up wouldn't produce a debut winner anywhere. Bring a solid OR79+ type and the FTO wins will come along. |
