Average pace at best and race developed into little more than a 2f sprint in the straight. Little separation between front 9 to finish and 'fades' by 2nd & 3rd through halfway little more than minor folding back late on into a wave of plugging on midfield unable to raise pace to separate themselves. Some eased late because they were in a pack going the same pace as them rather than being tired or fading. In that context BA showed something a little different to be 2.5L+ off lead going into the last 1f and make a strong forward effort. LV solid effort and bigger type. Some interest in Farlow for the future as still green and taking time to get going. Lengthening out likeable in last 0.5f and going forward at the finish. Trainer John Jenkins has a below average record withs 2yos. Small number of winners over the last few years and not known for a smooth career development. One of the trainer's that turns out an above average number of sweaty and fizzy types. But, looking through his record the 'Ok' 2yos he has do tend to show it on debut (as you would probably expect since the fizziness can go with being ready enough for debut). In the last three seasons he has produced three individual 2yo winners from 28 horses. On debut those three have been Spitfire (won FTO at 14/1), Love You Louis (3rd FTO at 17/2) & Ray Of Joy (5th of 15 at 50/1). To those you could add La Fortunata (never won for the stable but has blossomed this year at 3yo for another trainer. But 3rd at 50/1 FTO). Which makes this 33/1 win less surprising. Weak race so a usable one for a Ready-FTO trainer shouldn't be 33/1. The issue is how to spot the usable ones. |
