Going GGS but fast times on the day and horses withdrawn because of 'Going'. Nothing about re-configuration of the course on the official website. Jockey Drowne interviewed after Cityscape had won the earlier, older horse, Listed race at the disance in a fast time said the course was shorter than normal. A lot of work done on the track surface over the last 2-3 years but this a ridiculously fast time. Old course rarely used to get better than GGS on it before the surface and drainage improved. This time more than 2 seconds faster than any 2yo event run here since the start of 2002. Trainer O'Brien's record with British raced 2yos has been below the 'Reputation' he has for some years. Take out the really good ones capable of winning Group races at Royal Ascot or in late season and he really doesn't get wins here to a good approximation. Runners at this level usually seem to be try-ons and not be taken that seriously. But, this one punted with typical outcome. Not one to use as a 'prop' to explain the form either. RH pressed the pace too hard and almost certainly isn't that good. Look close at O'Brien's record and he hasn't had a winner at Royal Ascot for the last three years. His small number of wins in the last 2 seasons in Britain have been in Late September on in Group races. His record in Britain in 2010 to this point is 0-16 and time to take his runners a bit more seriously when the Royal Lodge, Fillies' Mile & Racing Post Trophy come round. |
