Field race centre. Strong pace and faster time. Conditions helpful but time seems to stand up against older horse 5f races on card. 3yo Seller won in 62.75s carrying 6lbs less & OR74 older horse won in 61.69s with same weight. Galtymore Lad declared for early Novice race at Nottingham but a non-runner. Channon typically starts and OR75-85 type in that race. Drawn wide on Debut at Windsor & very upset in the stalls. Never put into the race by jockey Culhane after that. Culhane switch to Bling Stag at this course last time & Galtymore Lad given a non-involving ride in that race but got to 4th with no effort as the pacemakers going too hard and faded notably. Still not look mentally tuned in to competing then. Culhane back on board here and backed strongly to odds-on today. Still showed signs of not really mentally competing in the first 1.5F here but bullied out of it today by Culhane and settled in second rank after 2F with the leading pair going a bit too hard. Given the support (perhaps owner Findlay needs to pay some bills after 3 losing months in a row) and the time suggests GLad is mid OR85s now he has mentally grown up a little. Good run from LR attending the pace and then pressing GL until into the last 0.5F. Another positive for the Doncaster fillies' race she ran in FTO. The first 6 from that race have produced 2 wins & 3 solid placed efforts (plus a poor run from Ever Roses to raise a question mark over and ability mix just behind the 1st 4). STT drift in Market despite the fact the trainer talked him up in Stable Tour. Ran straight this time & set a solid pace that lead to the ok final time. But stalling by the 1F mark like he does not get a full 5f. One to track for development, perhaps in Nurseries and perhaps when the Market is less negative. Solid effort by Ice Trooper as the first runner of the year for the Stubbs' yard. A trainer to take seriously and horses often improve well to STO. Attended the early pace comfortably enough and racing wide beyond centre track. Left behind inside the last 2f by the leading 3 but 4L clear of the 6th through halfway (with the other 3 spread over another 8L & 5th+ all driven along before halfway). Showed enough to be competitive STO in slightly less strong quality race. |
