Musawama not running a controlled race in the lead and the pace varied. But free at times and put enough pace into the race to allow the closers to get involved. Despite that he held on for second and another example of how difficult it can be to get past a front runner who sticks to the rail in the last 2f. Race to demonstrate all sides of new trainer Zarooni. Horses tend to be ready for debut and perform ok. But, they can train off quickly and a whole range have run badly 3TO+ (some STO). Look through the whole list and it is dreadful viewing. You couldn't trust a Zarooni 2yo to run to any worthwhile level 3TO. Arc Light as first string adding to the pile here. He finished 5th on debut in a good race and three of those that finished in front have won since. Three in the ruck behind have run good places. [Makes you think about the light-framed, tight wound Rewilding and his effort in the Voltigeur. He goes in the St Leger tomorrow as favourite and you kinda think he is more likely to go 'pop' and walk home last than win with the Zarooni factor.] Meanwhile, he wins the race with a second string on debut and ridden by a 7lb claimer. More 'Second String' stuff and 16/1 versus 3/1 for Arc Light's favourite just wrong. Jockey Antioco's record on the Zarooni 2yos is now 5 from 20 and a more than 100% profit from backing all his mounts. 4 of the wins have been on the 9 debut runners he has ridden. The other was on a STO runner who has been beaten in a nursery since. His record on Zarooni 2yos on 3TO+ outings is 0 from 5 with 4 unplaced and one scrambling 3rd in a 6 horse race. Oh boy, watch Rewilding through your fingers. |
