Light wind as a headwind in the straight. Stiff pace which put pressure on the lesser athletes from early on and mostly spread the horses out by ability. Pace meant a lot of stalling and fading and final ratings a bit lower than many could run to with more restrained pace. Leading Line-of-4 form up by 1F from start with DD on inside off the rail and DT, Veeb & Marlinka outside her. DT the smallest of the 4 & struggling to keep in the line by halfway and fading soon in the straight. Marlinka deserves extra credit for various reasons and ought to be better than DD in future. Had to come from wide draw and make effort to get into line and ran on the outside around the bend. Travelled best and the Last off the Bridle (LoB) at the 1.5F point out, Tried hard to the line but stalling late and unable to hold off DD who was on STO, had run less distance and made less effort early to get tot he leading line. Veeb travel second best but fade very quickly. Mollyow is probably an OR58-63 filly to peg the form and another that tried hard and finished in her best position but limited ability. Aside from expecting the winner to improve and be solid OR70s & Veeb may be just into the OR70s the interest in the others requires considering what is the future for Freckenham & MStyle. The first of those the biggest filly and a believable OR80+ one. If she had just blundered through the race looking stupid and finished with an all-out Mollyow then ok to think she could be that rating when she grows up. The niggle would be that she was given a hard ride that looked a bit like trying to sort out a slightly unwilling one. Put that to one side and on physical grounds you would think she could be the best of these. What to make of Alan Jarvis? With probably 80% of trainers with 2yos you can see what the plan is and how they develop horses. This is not possible with Mr Jarvis and, unfortunately, it was no surprise to see horses leaking away from the Karl Burke stable when Jarvis (Burke's father-in-law) took over following Burke's suspension last year. Who would you want your expensive 2yo trained by if Burke is gone, Jarvis or Cecil? Jarvis or Fahey? Not even a proper question really. MStyle ran in the Brocklesby on softer going and that was clearly not suitable for her. She then gets blasted along from a wide draw at Pontefract. Fallon packed it in after half a furlong here and had only niggled away and never given it the full driving or, possibly while it is still allowed, the whip. Fallon reported to the Stewards that the filly was 'Never Travelling'. If this was on a Cecil horse you would take this as absolutely acceptable comment and no problem. With a Jarvis horse it does not look so straightforward. Anyway, Majestic Style is better than she has shown and, Guys, give her a go on the AW. |
