SUMMARY

Suspect form to take literally and not a strong performance. Slow time for conditions with OR59 older handicapper running 72.62 with 9-4 (& App7) later at the meeting. Ground might have been quickening but not that much. Halfway positions show that not much happened in the 2F sprint the race became.
Mayhab able to set an easy, unpestered, lead in centre track and set a below average pace. Rest of jockeys presumably told to drop-in and more than one of them struggled to do this from after half a furlong in to around 1.5f into the race because of the crawl. Several bouts of Fighting For Heads from the horses and Bajan Bullet never drop-in.
Race turned into a 2F sprint with Mayhab running straightest to add to the easy advantages over the others. Just over a length clear of Bajan Bullet when Mayhab picked the pace up and the same at the line. Mayhab achieved this by travelling straight. BB hang right and get a bit outpaced inside 2F out but responding late on to close back a little.
Tamareen able to delay making his effort a little after Mayhab because travelling Ok. Typical 'kind' ride from R. Hills to just ask him to go with Mayhab (close up to him) then let Tamareen drift back as he stalled late on. Might well be better than Mayhab when he is ready to run a full race.
Battle Of Britain another gree debut for Godolphin and this one at a shorter price. Hung right with Bajan Bullet although got past her but then green & hanging left in the last 1F. Not eased in the way Tamareen was in the last 0.5F so go past that one as it ambled home (Ajtebi a naturally more aggressive rider than either Hills & perhaps his Camel background).
Lady Morganna one of the free runners early and ran as if something wrong. Outpaced before the full 2F efforts went and left behind at that point & no response.
Tokum the first runner of the year for Jeremy Noseda. Up to 2008 the trainer's May debuts often contained some of his best and debut wins were common. This peaked in 2008 with a 5 from 9 FTO record up to the end of May. The debut winners would often go on to compete well in Listed+ races. 2009 a very poor year for the yard and a problem with the horses wellbeing. Only 2 winners from 22 runners and a woeful 4% Strike Rate for a proven good trainer. The early debuts were competent OR65-74 types rather than his better ones.
Tokum unconvincing in Paddock Review. Small & compact although solidly built. But, clueless in the race and seemed to struggle to keep up given being green and lack of size. Looked more the lower end of the Noseda debuts and perhaps another try out type to see how 'well' hie horses are. Trainer has his second runner two days after this with Twist Of Silver in a 3 runner race at Newmarket opposed by horses from smaller stables so likely to be a shorter favourite. Check how that one goes.
