SUMMARY
Solid pace set which put pressure on the lesser athletes but provide a good 'Lead' to Kojak & EG who were both able to produce stronger finishes off it. Field spread out by ability mostly with a couple of question marks. Good example of how being drawn near the rail can be a disadvantage. Leading line of three after 1 furlong made up of (inside outwards) Kojak, Silly Billy & Uncle Dermot from stalls 6, 10 & 11. These 3 form up as a set early and cross in front of the field (XF) together cutting off anything inside them or on the rail unless they want to fight for the lead. EG happy to drop in 2nd Rank behind these 3 having run too freely with no cover last time and underperformed. CPearl plain too small & slow to do anything other than be outpaced by them. FPressing react a bit to getting crossed and get a little unbalanced.
SB & UD make the usual 2F efforts without much happening but putting a little distance into the lesser ones like HTS. This pair fading by the last half furlong. Kojak going comfortably with these efforts and Hughes waiting to make his effort.
Given the unseat last time he rode Kojak here with the demeanour of a man carrying an overloaded tray of drinks just waiting for something to go wrong. Asked Kojak for effort at the 1F out pole and solid response and went 2L clear for just minor pressing. But just HnH from there on in and not wanting to press Kojak too much. EG behind him not able to make the immediate effort he did 1F out but gathered herself and finish strongly from 0.5F out to catch him late. Hughes unable to ask for too much response and a good ride from Jimmy Quinn on EG.
Kyncraighe probably 3rd best and travelled that way at times. Got a bit lost as the 2F out efforts went probably through inexperience. Finishing best of the others late on for minimal asking and could have been 3rd & going on at the finish with a harder ride.
Uncle Dermot a breeze-up purchase so not always with Brendan Powell. Presume he is being wound up to try ro win a sales Bonus. Supported here and given a pressing ride from a wide draw. Going for a punt on a horse trained by someone who has only ever had a single 2yo win seems hopeful at best. Fading a bit early off the pace and perhaps usable OR60s but trainer obviously struggles to get wins.
Swendab adrift at around 12L off lead at halfway and beaten 6.5L at the finish. Given a hard ride but seemed to do more than just plug on into the faders. Slight niggle that the rating for the race a little high given his profile and how he ran the race. Check how he goes next time because usable at a lower level on this.
