Rail out from far side by up to 19 feet so race distance a little longer around the dogleg & field racing towards centre track although along the far rail of the day. Traditionally a strong maiden but dependent upon the pair of Hannon & Channon to provide the Group quality types if there are any. Strong pace here set by MMagic running freely. DDiamond a typically strong debut by an early runner for Henry Candy. This his first runner of the year and DD supported as if useful. In 2008 his first two runners were Amour Propre & Dark Mischief for one debut win for example. DD get shuffled back as many of field became unbalanced towards the path at around 2F from start. Swicthed to centre and soon going best. Strong enough finish and won a little ocmfortably. Presume an OR85+ sprinter. FLeghorn lack the pace to get involved with bigger horses and just plug on to 2nd late and never challenge winner. Looks vulnerable in Open Maidens with anything bigger and ready in them. BMoon expensive for trainer who has had less horses in recent years. Ran very well by his FTO standards and has the size, as a filly, to believe she is OR75+. MMagic another Millman runner to improve notably STO. Ran too freely or might have placed. Probably OR70+ but needs to settle better. R. Beckett not got his 2yos going yet but has profitable record with debuts runners when he does. EL attend early pace but fade badly. Has good sprint 2yo pedigree but not show a full race here. RReward a bigger model by sire's standards and flashy. On physical grounds ought to be O85+. To green here and lost ground going left from a wide stall. Got back to midfield comfortably after 1F but going to freely and climbing over the back of DDiamond. Seemed to Clip that one's heels and then stumble as he tried to rebalance. Lost 5-6L doing this and Jockey reported to Stewards the horse had lost it's action. Seems likely this was actually clipping heels. Hughes happy just to HnH him home and sensible since the stumble jolting enough to perhaps cause an injury. Ought to be better than his result here by some way. A good sign if her turns up in one of the better maidens the Hannon target Next time - say Goodwood, Newmarket or poss Newbury. Might be some value with a 6th on is card. |
