SUMMARY
Odd race to get a handle on and the Personalities of the horses, mostly the number who packed it in, seemed to fiddle with the apparent dynamics. Look at the halfway positions to final placings and you would say it was a pacy race and the Closers had the race set up for them. The first 4 home made up the midfield into the bend and made challenges at different points, wide, in the straight. MM & PIAD making theirs early into the straight and getting to the lead but not getting home fully. The first two home came from well back and weren't in the 1st 3 into the last 1f.
But, visually not an all-out pace. Inclined to split the field into 3 sets. First three through halfway had made strong efforts to get to leading line early and ran too freely at times. Apazine pulling from second rank to a clear lead down the back straight with the jockey unable to hold her. She wouldn't have been able to do this into a stiff pace and she was 2L clear at halfway. She had softened herself up but made a soild effort in the straight until the fade in the last 1f. The pair that chased her made a less good job of efforts and both are 'quirky'. BK packed it in on his 3TO run for Zarooni but did make an effort here early in the straight. He then ran into the back of the leader and MM and seemed to pack it in again. The Sheepskin Nosebands the Zarooni 2yos wear seem to make them all look like they are holding their heads up when it is supposed to stop them doing it. Royal Rev pretty wild on his early runs and has become more circumspect as he's been tamed. No real forward effort here and more than a hint he wasn't bothering and thinking about it instead. The first four home are another set and they made efforts in different ways with the bigger pair in the first two home taking time to wear down the small MM. You wonder whether either would have placed with a less helpful race set-up.
Last 3 home off the back in the stright for various reasons. Appyjack small and useless and hustled into the race 3 wide. Blown away on the bend lacking the basic power to compete but at least he does try. ATE hinted at packing it in in some earlier runs and putting the brakes on before the final bend. KOTD has looked a 4TO nursery set-up on his three initial runs. But, drifting in the Market and signs that this was not 'Today'. Ok break and in second rank to the first Bend (CH) but then hauled back as the field sorted itself out into the back straight (BS). Un-cooperative from the final bend and no response in the straight. Drifting in the Market because he is another shirker? One to check the Market for on his next couple of runs to see whether the connections think they have found the 'Key' to him. Or the right set-up to punt.
