Race played llike a Slower Paced one in faster conditions. Runners finished in a clump at the end with them struggling to separate themselves. Pace not strong enough to cause any faders and none able to raise enough forward effort to show anything different. BBelle took 1.5f to get 1.5L back on GBlaze who had a soft time in front. Nothing else much to report other than some moderate efforts by the bigger lads in the field leaving an unexciting race with the first three beating the rest having had a head start in a late race sprint. DPenny another bigger type by his sire to show a mulish attitude to add to the pile and his rolling around at the start reminiscent of Diamond Charlie going quietly bonkers at Salisbury. Those antics got him behind and then slow to relent and make some effort later one. Closing on the leaders to the line and more than a hint that he could have won with a positive attitude. RBehavious green at the start and seems to have an ok attitude. But, a typical Johnston plodder not suited to slower races and late race sprints. As with many of his horses that just makes them look slow. Better for leading and setting an even pressure gallop. You wonder what would happen if Mark Johnston went to train in France where they love a '2f Sprint' at the end of the race and their horses are trained for it. Either he wouldn't be able to get a winner. Or, he would change the face of French racing, like Martin Pipe did with his Scudamore ridden front-running hurdlers in the 1990s, and get bundles of winners that were 10L clear at halfway.RASpa ideally placed to make the late race sprint and ran inside GB on the bend. But lost ground for no good reason towards 2F out and lost his place. Hung left over to the far rail and then responding to plug on in the group. |
