SUMMARY
TM pulled too hard LTO but missed the break here and able to be dropped in behind a solid pace set by Libranno. Running freely after halfway but held to some extent then allowed to pull forward to be near to leading line when the final efforts started. Dealt with the leader and CP comfortably but neither of those finished the race off fully. Formosina & TPaddyman both held up and no progress inside 2F out when the efforts started. Owe their final positions to plugging on in the final fulrong through faders.
Jockey Mullen on the winner quick to defend Fortune for his ride on TM last time when he effectively got run away with. Mullen saying that if a jockey as strong as Fortune couldn't hold him that day then difficult for anyone and the horse had not shown that tendency before. Presume Fortune had got criticised for that effort. But, it is using 'Strength' in jockeyship in the area where plain physical strength does matter. Holding a horse up that wants to run freely. Meanwhile, Fortune was having a similar experience on Desert Law who pulled his chance away by free-running and fighting the jockey. Still travelling ok to 2f out and going the pace better than the final 2nd & 4th, for example. But nothing happened when asked for an effort and eased. Trainer said before the race he was sure the horse was up to this level. The horse had not worked with another 2yo at home for weeks (because he had nothing else to go with him). Showed enough here to make the 'hype' believable when he settles down and has the bulk and power to assist the positive view.
