Good Grief. The sort of low class nursery to remind you that one of the good things about 2yo racing is the relative lack of handicaps. Also to make you wistful about those enthusiastic young horses than many of these fillies were some short time ago. Oh, the winters to come of sorting through the useless, the unwilling, the beaten-up old lags, the hangers, and so on for something usable. 10 fillies entered and two did not even make it to the course with leg problems. Three of the remaining eight gave real problems trying to get them from the parade ring to the stalls. The winner CW refused to be mounted & backed herself into a corner to prevent it. Led onto the course and part of the way to the start. At least her cussedness seemed to extend to not letting other equines go past her once she had got to the lead in the race. At the start JB behaved like she was about to go loopy and couldn't be loaded. MissM reared over backwards and fell on her back and unseated the jock. They stuffed her in and she ran anyway but finished tailed off. Half the field either broken or bonkers. Original Favourite CB had been withdrawn from a Newmarket maiden 3 days earlier for having reared over backwards in the parade ring and not passing the Vet afterwards. She must have felt right at home in this bedlam. Had her own handler at the Start and was walked around, dismounted, well away from the other fillies. She gave a performance that suggested very strongly that she wasn't going to put her head in front even if she could. The lightweight apprentice had spent so much energy pushing and shoving her it looked like he expired first about 0.5f out. The horse reported to the Stewards that the jockey had 'nothing left to give' .While she had plenty. With SUADrive useless there isn't much left in this race. PBallet has presentable form for the level but appeared to have caught the mood. Fly-Jumped out of the stalls then ran too freely. Head in the air and unbalanced in later race before a grisly fade. With SR anonymous that left the winner to 'hold of'f the recalcitrant RIce on her return from a long break after showing regressive form and being thumped in sellers twice. Came though late here but with the jockey looking like he was wrestling an anaconda. Great stuff. |
