Stalls Centre. Field race Centre to Stands' Side to past halfway then leader Inagh River take field to the Stands' rail. SF switch out to last behind the field early and then out to centre as the efforts went. Phoebs do the opposite and drop-in right to the field and then over to the rail as the efforts went. So this pair have entirely changed position from initial draw to finishing run. IRiver allowed to set just an average pace unpestered. Jockey Hughes able to delay starting the late race efforts until nearly 1.5F out turning the race into a short sprint. IR respond well enough to go 1L clear to 1F out as four of others either outpaced and/or green and the two bigger fillies (TSA & Phoebs) got themselves organised for a last furlong effort. TSA ridden by Moore but Hannon first string. While Hughes usually has the pick Moore seems to get offerred the better one at times as you would expect since he is the Champion jockey & Hannon cannot expect him to ride second strings all the time. TSA notably bigger than IRiver and running a little free early. Lost a bit of ground to IR as TSA had to swicth off the rail pocketed behind IR to get a run. Ok effort to run down a filly still going forward for 1.5L in the last 1F. IR probably mid OR80s and TSA OR90+. Phoebs supported and similar size to TSA. Travelling well enough as the efforts went but not able to produce an immediate response. As at Lingfield she then showed a strong effort in the last furlong. Closing up to the leading pair late on in a way which suggested she migth have challenged for the win with a clear run. But running down the rail into 3/4s of a gap between it & IRiver and with IR's jockey using his whip in the gap. Joint decision between horse & jockey not to go full out into that gap late on. GS touted as better one but look small in this group. Unable to go with efforts and fading earlier than some of the weaker profile ones. Seem to confirm the impression of Warwick win that she is not worth the hype. Proximity of lesser newcomers SP & PIB a niggle that the race did not spread the abilities out properly and their ratings may be too high. Neither trainer are the type who comfortably turn promise into STO wins either. Tend to approach this pair with caution in maidens next time and see how they go and perhaps both value to take on. SFright given a typically non-involving ride by Spencer. Very expensive 2yo purchase and at least as big as Phoebs & TSA. 'Ponied' to the start and very green in the race. (Since the 'Pony' was bigger than she is that seems the wrong word). Travelled well enough to the average pace and a brief forward effort to 1F out, alone in centre track, before hanging a little & Spencer packing it in. A Trial Ride that she ought to improve from notably and STO be the day to try to win. Watch for support then. 12/1 here a sign that the Cole's did not expect her to be ready today even if she is any good. |
