SUMMARY
1.4s slower time than the Nursery won off OR76 carrying 3lbs more before apprentice allowance. SG setting a stiff pace her and 5L+ clear at times over the runner-up with the rest another good gap back. Slower time as he was fading in the last half furlong but only NL able to keep close enough to maked any worthwhile headway late on to the fading leader. SG the 10th winner to come from the Brocklesby and vied for being the best type in that field and problems have meant it has taken more than 6 months for him to win. But, despite the headline he is one of only 4 of the 10 winners who have not already had to be dropped to Sellers & Claimers. Of the non winners perhaps one or two still have some chance of not dropping to that level.
What to make of the support for the Prescott newcomer Lion Court? The trainer is following the 2008 template and he batches up debuts notably. So far the first two rafts of debuts have produce a lot of winners and he has had two spells in the season when 4 consecutive runners have won. Links back to choosing the competitive 2yos for the early batches and the tight spread of the batches in date. But, the late September batch he has just started are usually the 3yo set-ups for handicaps and not 2yos. Occasionally there is the odd 2yo winner in these late batches but uncommon. He said about this one in early season 'in a field at present and more of a 3yo prospect' .When Prescott says the plan is as a 3yo then that is usually what he means. He isn't guessing, that is the plan. The six debuts in the last two days have all been uncompetitive despite a couple of places in small fields. Either the support here was nonsense or perhaps Lion Court has developed more quickly than the trainer imagined (he is by Iffraaj who has made a very good start with his first 2yos but out of a stout mare and the trainer seemed to think that would slow him down). See what the Market says STO. Presume this one is ok and the question is whether Prescott lets him go this year or tries to win multiple handicaps in 2011.
