SUMMARY
GF going but raining as this race was run. Going not change during meeting.
Stalls in centre of track and field race centre for most of race. In 2009 there was a definite advantage to racing stands' side of centre. In many races being Centre to Far side was deadly and saw solid horses fading by 2F out or just after. DB switch in behind field early from Stands' draw and then left again to challenge furthest towards far rail.
Slow time for Good-Firm and MAMS able to set a modest pace unpestered. Turned race into a 2F sprint and not form to read literally as not enough 'pressure' in race to spread the horses out properly at the finish.
Drawing Board is clearly not the 'Brains of the Outfit' and still green here. On debut he managed to get to the lead past, softened up, fading horses of solid ability late on but then his head went in the air and he just lasted home looking green and ears pricked. Settled in here like a piece of work of home and took time to get past the little fillies and then stargazing once in the lead. Won comfortably and can rate higher. But, he will need to get his head down and battle when he runs into a worthwhile opponent still going forward at the finish at some point and he has not shown he would know how to deal with that.
PIAD seemed to be going 2nd best but had his head up as soon as the efforts started 2F out. Hung left and lost 2-3L quickly towards the last furlong and possibly feeling the GF ground or something. Not fading but some other cause. Jockey recognised this and continued riding in the last furlong for some response late but only after he had hung to the Stands' side of centre.
