SUMMARY
You could wonder whether the Ffos Las 5f course is actually the full 1,100 yards. This the second fastest time recorded in any 2yo race this season. The only faster one when Marlinka blasted down the same 5f in 0.31s quicker. And she doesn't appear to stay 5f anymore. The only other courses where any races have dipped under 58s have been Lingfield Turf, Southwell (back in March with a Gale behind them) & Thirsk (by 0.01s).
Example of an Irish trainer bringing a horse over for a maiden. Previous examples at Wolverhampton and the Scottish tracks. Connections interviewed after race and had clearly planned this trip well and thought the horse was good condition and competitive to win. Part of the reason for the trip had been the filly is, a first foal, owner bred and her half brother yearling is due at the sales soon.
Example of how the Irish maiden races can be strong and there are few opportunities for horses of a quality that regularly win races in Britain. Less races in Ireland mean that there are some combination of O'Brien, Bolger, Weld & Oxx reps in most maidens and a tough quality level. Richard Hughes was recently asked whether he would train when he retired from riding. He said yes immediately and was then asked where that would be - Britain or Ireland. He lives in Britain but his father has a been a trainer in Ireland for many years so there is a stable there that could be 'his'. He unhesitatingly said it would be in Britain. He said that if you had a 2yo in Britain you could 'duck & dive' and find something that it could win. In Ireland the Big stable reps and less races meant that was not possible.
