Main field raced centre track as previous races had done. A baffling Market. On what planet could Style & Panache ever open as a 100/1 shot? In early season she was probably Evans' best filly and has the joint best form in the field and is 10lbs below the topweight. Trainer Evans pretty much always gets multiple wins with this type and sticking with them after some modest runs ok. That is how the trainer works. Keep on running them and they come back into form. She became his fifth multiple winner of the season and all had made their debuts by April 6th and were 5 of his first 9 runners. He knows by the season start which are the best of them and they will run often often to win more than one race. Often getting the laters wins in later season. This filly has always had the size to bounce back and here faced by a bunch of smaller girls, Phoebs excepted who gave 10lbs to her. 8 of the first 9 home were fillies. Evans isn't a betting trainer and can be pessimistic about his chances and often looks as surprised as anyone by a win for the stable. SAP had run poorly last time on soft going and prior to that had been running too freely in tough races which broke up for Closers to win. The going report here would seem a negative and perhaps what got the Market dismissing her. But, the early races had not been slow times for the type and the pacemakers steaming down Centre track doing well. Which is what the winner did here and never stopped. The time simply isn't consistent with GGS. Evans had made the filly an NR twice on softer going including GGS but let her run here. |
