Refreshing interview by trainer Kelleway after PL's win. Said PL would probably go for the 6f Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot rather than the 5f Queen Mary. Rather than getting caught up with a typically gushing question from the interviewer Kelleway clamly said that despite PL taking the field off it's feet here she was doing it to lesser fillies who were not really 5F sorts. In the Queen Mary faster fillies would take the field along even faster and she thought PL would get found out. A lesser version of a Listed race (which never are 'Top Class' events despite the hype merchants waffle) and worth reminding yourself that last year's race had a headline with the winner going on to win at Group 2 level and place in a Group 1. What about the fillies close up to her? The second and third are still maidens and the fourth's only later win was in a claimer. The fifth was sold at the Horses In Training sale at season end for a piddling 1,000 guineas. Probably OR80s form for the winner here in the long view and therefore judging horses future prospects needs to factor in how much physical development potential the runners have. |
