Strong enough pace to put everything under pressure and, aside from perhaps the winner, nothing finishing race off fully. Halfway positions tell story of Three Races within the main event. First race a 3 runner affair between Yarooh, DParton & Orchid Street. All wanting to be front rank and forcing the pace. Yarooh get to front early with rail draw & Catlin typical pressing. This drop fast breaking DParton to second behind her just off the rail. Orchid Street the first runner of the season for Anne Duffield and FTO places and odd wins common for the usable ones and the SP of variable use. This one retained at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-up sales in April so should be forward in preparation. [The Breeze ups Vidoes are on the Tattersalls website under the Sales Section so the Orchid Street 2f effort at the sales can be viewed. Very useful in this case showing Orchid Street running straight and listening well to the jockey. Enough bulk to be usable and should be ready here in mental terms]. OS a jockey change on the day and the instructions were clearly to press on and try to win a Breeze Up Bonus. Driven early from a wide draw to cross over to 1 off the rail and head Yarooh after a furlong. Catlin & Yarooh respond to go with here. DParton unable to go with this pair as they pressed on & 2L off lead at halfway. This 3 runner race resolved with OS breaking Yarooh so that one underperformed given the pace set. OS softened up a little and unable to hold DParton off as she plugged on in the last 1F. Very good debut by OS and even thoughg may lack development in mental terms is probably OR80+ & winning a Northern maiden not difficult for her. 4th to 7th at halfway at 3L to 4.5L back & all racing wider of the rail than the first 3 other than RHush. Pressure of keeping in midfield meant no strong finishes from them. IEXceed do best and has build to believe she can develop from this to be OR70+. 8th+ at halfway adrift of midfield group at 9-13L off lead and unable to deal with pace for various reasons. ERoses show promis on debut and nothing since. Jockey perhaps expecting her to hang left from early on but hauled her back from a good break and switched away from the rail and both negatives to her chance of a good placing. Hung left towards the far side in the last 2F & eased. Perhaps she is useless or perhaps this was the 3rd run to qualify for a handicap mark. VGrape do best of this group in making progress but low level form and just about getting ontot the back of the midfield faders. Trainer slowly develops 2yos with runs so check how she goes next time. |
