SUMMARY

Halfway positions versus final suggest pace slightly strong and most of prominent racers fade. SC a positive for being involved with the closers late on. Worth noting that the first three home raced next to the rail or within one lane of it to well past halfway before the field spread out. Those racing lanes 2-6 of first 8 (9th & 10th both close to rail but already well adrift of main group) through halfway fade worst. Lady Excellentia race wide and too freely. SC within a neck of leader at halfway, WH at 2.5L+, J'wood 3.5L+ & DVine at 4L.
Slow time for conditions & OR68 handicapper ran 70.36s carrying 4lbs more later on card. Time in line with race folding backwards with the pace too strong & allowing quietly ridden J'wood to plug on to lead on the line (another Dobbs on the second string moment). J'wood a second winner for new sire HREmporer & both at longer than 5f with early runners not looking full-on 5f types.
SC hang right as making effort inside last 2F pole and cut off Byrony as MWay had started his effort earlier (Culhane in 'Today' mode riding MW). Byrony respond just averagely and plug on but then hampered again as WH hang off rail at the 1F pole. Hughes eased her after this so she is better than the result reads. But, an element in both cases of being hampered of the gaps going a bit faster than she was and if she had picked up better she would have been in the gap rather than squeezed backwards or cut-off.
