SUMMARY
 GGS but drying day. Slow overall time but 0.99s slower than 2yo Conditions race with winner here carrying 3lbs more before App3.
Confusing race to get a handle on and probably mixed the abilites up. Halfway positions to final placing suggest that rail running Masaya set a pace as leader that broke the other prominent racers including those with previous placed form. Melodize run freely early and 2nd to the 1F pole so not run as badly as 8th reads and perhaps just softened up chaing a good one in Masaya? INarjes not as comfortable with pace as Melodize and outpaced to some degree by 2F out efforts. Suspect she is not a 5f filly at all ans will be up to 6f next.
Koha a very expensive purchase for trainer and has had a 2yo Breeze-up preparation so not a typical debut prep for him. Seemed to be going well 2F out but nothing much happened when the efforts went at 2F out and just plugged on in the bunch of stallers and mild closers that formed late on with the first pair clear. Koha probably another 6f+ type and improve well from this.
2nd to 4th at finish the 'closers' and 6th to 8th at halfway between 3-4L off the leader. Overwhelm do well to get involved inside 2F out despite running wider and green at times. Probably got to 2nd before stalling. MLTB best of the closers and staying on to challenge late on. A cheap buy but the yearling prices last year were well down in 2009 and not comparable to recent years. In the past a £1,000 yearling would have been pony sized and probably useless. A range of 2yos this year have already shown that 1,000 to 5,000 purchases were not that size in general. A lot more 'No Bids' last year for the really poor physical types. MLTB another solid debut by a Cox 2yo in his first batch this year. The early runners tend to be the natural, and ordinary ability, 2yos and might not progress.
Abilities mixed at finish and might be some winenrs well back. Malcolm Saunders has found the odd sprint winning filly in his early runners in the last 3 years. Excello not able to show what she can do because of slow start and then eased very early when staying on into the bunch late on. Worth checking next time.
