GF going produced by watering as 12mm applied over Tues-Weds and 12mm on Thurs. No rain since 1.5mm the Friday before the meeting. Stiff to Strong Breeze as a crosswind from the left. Suspect race overall in a slow time and final positions not reflecting relative abilities. Exhibit A would be the small and limited ECrisis battling for the win in the last 0.5f. The two fillies she was duelling with seem better types and prospects and EC seems OR50s of some sort. Race seemed to have a Strong Pace which meant nothing finishing the race off well. Slenningford, Headstight & OTDS fomes up into a Lo3 in Centre track and solid pace early. These three then took off after 2f across the intersection. This outpaced EC & Marie's Fantasy who crossed over to the far rail together while Arachis Bow dropped to be slightly adirft with HFreeze already well adrift through greenness. The Lo3 not getting home and fading either 1f out or by 0.5f out. S'ford & OTDS rolling home together tired which allowed the tiny trier EC to keep on plugging on down the rail at her one pace to catch up to them. But giving an inccorect reading of the relative ability. OTDS in a weak race but the Market saying she would be a solid Ryan debut and in good condition. A little green but travelled best through the race and delayed her final effort. Unable to put the distance between her and EC she should because of the pace and being on debut. Not better class and perhaps a late OR70s type but better than she showed here. Trainer Pears has had few 2yos but one consistent trait is that the ones he have with abilty show it FTO. He has had only 4 x individual winners so far in 3 seasons and three have won FTO and the other won 3TO having been 4th of 16 FTO at 13/2. In 2010 he won a 5f maiden here FTO with Slenningford's half sister Clipthorne who benefited from being well behind a pace war. Backing his debuts, especially at BVLY seem almost compulsory given at least some positives. This one big enough in context but not looking that fit nor ready. But competent overall and pressed the pace. Trainer does not have any record for developing FTO winners so intersting to see how this one goes. Ought to be able to rate higher and must be more superior to EC than she showed. Minor promise from Arachis Bow but might just have been slowly plugging on to fading and tired horses. Headstight a non-stayer on the evidence of 3 runs and ran too freely again here in the Lo3 to get home. Needs to develop to finish off a full 5f. MF has now got unbalanced and/or hung whenever put under pressure in all three races. Outpaced by the Lo3 kicking on after 2f and the rolling about on the far rail side. Another early fade. Hanagan riding to assist with the low SP. |
