£10k Bonus race & one of 4 on the day after a break. GGF with 4mm of Water applied to course 2 days prior to this meeting. Going Stick 7.9 reading. Course was at it's full width for their 3 day Festival at the start of the month. Inside rail pushed out for this meeting and no cutaway at the top of the Home Straight. The entire 6.1f course has the rail out and this adds 21yds to the race distance which means it is closer to 6.2f. Strong breeze as roughly a Headwind from the Right for the first 2f, Crosswind from right for middle 2f & a Tailwind from the Left for the last 2f. Trainer Unett's MMan rushed into leading on the rail and set a stiff pace. This followed a similarly forcing effort, and fade, by the trainer's Blodwen Abbey at HYDK yesterday. Travelled ok and found some effort 2f out but unable to see the full race out off the pace he set. Smaller but squarely built and ok strong. Not Open Maiden class. Moonville just an ordinary debut effort by Fahey standards and looking borderline Open Maiden winner class. Found a soft race here where, in effect, he only had to beat MMan who did not stay. Made a similar effort to that one 2F out and still trying to shake him off until that one faded. A positive for how he Fahey horses can pick in wins in soft races by being competent and reliable. Can improve rating a little given a slightly slow break from the widest draw (and lucky after 0.5f out to avoid the veering Bajan Hero and the horse he collected) and ran Lane 1. Not one to follow and a nursery type. Quality of the race depended upon Tortoni fulfilling the promise of his debut run on a straight track. Had travelled as well as anything at YORK at 2f out but had hung left inside from there to 0.5F out and not looking to be going forward as smoothly as he might. Had a chance to get into a gap on the rail late on at YORK to challenge and didn't, or couldn't, get into it. Never travelling well here after getting a solid start. Hung right when MMan crossed in front of him after 0.5f. Always niggled along to try to hang onto the pace after that and 3L down at halfway and driven along. Hung right when asked to make his effort 2F out and lost touch with the leading pair and indistinguishable from the lesser types behind in the effort he found. Head up at times and rollling around in the last 1F and, again, never really going forward. Perhaps not handling this track but a niggle that he hasn't put his head down and raced late on in either run. SRomanas the type that might be usable lower OR60s but a lower quality one given the 'Open Maiden 3rd' on her record. Evans ran three with one WD AP and Bajan Hero bucking after being forced along from a good break. Then veered RH after 0.5f and bumped Adranian to last. Given the pace this mean this pair always chasing and neither running the rail with BHero widest overall. How close they were to Tortoni to 2F out again lowering the form level. BHero gave bigger problems on debut and given a 'bad horse' ride on his own STO being allowed to go right from the stalls to race on his own down the rail. Probably a better horse than Adranian but wayward. Adranian unable to show even his lower level of ability having been put out of the race by the bump. Lacked the pace to ever get balanced and back into the race to the pace set. |
