GF going with Watering as 5mm applied on each of Tues/Thur/Fri. Stalls Stands' Side. Medium breeze as a Tailwind. Hannon on his website before the race = "We have Cristal Gem making her debut in the opener at Lingfield, and the boss added: 'She is small but shows plenty of speed - a real Super Sprint type'" Another of those races where nothing presents a solid profile and any result possible and a bit of 'Least Worst' algebra. Red Mischief competent on debut but ran prominently in a slower placed race and able to place because of that. But, smaller type and not convincing and vulnerable to anything with a bit of OR70s and comptetent. Able to get over to the rail and control the race. Turned race into a 2f+ sprint but unable to win despite the advantages. Started flashing tail when challenged and apparently at the other fillies. OR60s and nurseries. Lady Victory supported in a moderate Thirsk maiden FTO but driven along throughout the race and appeared to pack it in. Able to sit behind he leader on the rail here. Not look that willing when asked to pull out and make her effort. Took time to respond and overhauled RM inside the last 0.5f and perhaps winning a bit comfortably. But, moderate form and is the attitude ok? Cristal Gem an example of how lazy thinking over Hannon 2yos takes over in this sort of set-up. CG one of 42 trainer debuts to this date and 6 have won with 4 or 5 of those wins by definite Better types. One other in a 4 runner race of al newcomers where they had two of the runners. Which means the Hannon debuts are back to normal after 2010 in needing to be better types to win. They have had 19 debuts at 7/2 or under so far for 2 wins and the Market just gets lazy a lot of the time when it knows not much. CGem not a better type enough and too gree and hanging left for much of the last 2f to the point of being hard to ride forward despite only having RM to overhaul with about a 1L deficit. Might be an ok sprinter but STO is when she will be ready to show what she can do. More headscratching over the shortening of Colorful Nation in the Market. The trainer is in a period where he might start a solid one off but she didn't look ready to win FTO in condition and green in the race. Not helped by getting carried wide early by AD but able to get back to the group because of the ordinary pace and ran the rail. Green and hanging left in the late race sprint and never threatening to get involved. Ok or not? Difficult one. But, the trainer does not get FTOs any more with 2yos to a first approximation. After being a 'Very Ready FTO' trainer in his first 3 years he has managed a single FTO win in 2009-10 from a Listed+ class filly. Alice's Dancer an ok size and pedigree but attitude clearly wrong. Bucking and rearing after 1F TP and useated the jockey. Bolted to the 8F start and caught there. Ran anyway but veering left early then losing ground by halfway and seemed to hang and pack it in 2f out. Has the scope to be usable if she settled down. [UPDATE = Mick Channon on his website May 23rd = "...saw LADY VICTORY confirm what we thought of her at home in the Lingfield fillies' maiden. Her debut at Thirsk is another of those two year old performances that left us scratching heads, but Saturday night's performance came as a relief... & = Lady Victory's debut at Thirsk was all wrong. She was made to wait in the stalls for far too long and then couldn't get involved having jumped so slowly. That happens, but we saw a different filly at Lingfield."] |
