Going changed to FGF overnight and around 20 x Non-Runners at the meeting because of that. Warm afternoon with medium breeze as a Headwind in the straight. Meeting started with this race followed by 2 other 5f events. Two won by horses in midfield at halfway and one by a runner in last of 5. Races using the outside 5f course closest to the stands. No strong evidence of Stands' Rail bias in the races. In this race the entire field was within just over 3L of each other at halfway and within 6-7 lanes of the stands' rail. Leading Line-of-4 from the rail out of Triggerlo, Choice Of Remark, Sonko and Latte with The Penny Horse sat in behind these 4 in Lane 1 off the rail. The other pair under pressure to go the pace and in Lanes 5-7 outside the leading wall next to the rail and in the headwind. Picture - of the finish of the race. The Stalls were next to the stands' rail and the field raced towards that side initially but with some spread and Triggerlo (Yellow) and Choice Of Remark (all Green) racing together against the rail. As the pace broke the field up in later race general hanging left to produce a wide spread finish. Jockey Fallon (Purple Sleeves & Red Cap) on one of the worst hangers (Latte, the best type and the one in the race for the future) and already dropped his hands (the finishing line is where the gap in the near rail is). He was interviewed by the Stewards about why he stopped riding early and lost 4th place late on. The hanging was his excuse. Trainer Moore said The Penny Horse would have been ridden by his stable apprentice but he had to go to Lingfield to ride a horse he had won on before for another trainer (who was a NR). The aprentice rode this one in all his work at home and he had not been easy. Trainer said he was a typical One Cool Cat in being quick but not straightforward. Untypically the trainer felt confident his horse would win if he did not boil over with the experience. Said he would keep him to straight tracks and felt a round track like Chester (Lily Agnes) would not suit him. Jockey said he had been told to switch the horse off then ride him to get to the lead late on. This he partly achieved behind the line of 4 but then he said the leaders stopped more quickly than he was expecting. This had left him in the lead too early and the horse had responded to the whip by veering left late on (giving COfR a chance to get back to him a little to the line). |
