Median Auction with Sire's Median limited to a maximum of £20k. Light Northerly wind and faster times on day. But, this race another one run at a moderate to average pace, a slow time and moderate performance quality. Developed into a sprint in the straight. 3yo rated OR63 able to run 60.25s carrying 6lbs more in later race for example. Typical piece of forcing riding early from jockey Kingscote to get from the outside stall to the rail quickly and cutting across the others. But, then settled the pace having managed that manouever. MRose bred by Channon and passed on to his major/preferred owner in Jaber Abdullah. That sort of filly who is passed on and starts early is typically OR78+ and will compete better on debut than the trainer average. He typically gets FTO wins at a few short periods during the year and one in early April in a soft AW race is one of the regulars. Solid type and bigger than VGG and running in Lane 1 wide of that filly and not fully settling. Took a little time to understand what was required in the straight but well on top at the finish and pulling away. Fits the usual model for this sort of pass on to JabAb. But, Channon would typically start a really good filly for the owner at the Newmarket Craven meeting so check if he has one there. Trainer Dascombe presumably trying to improve things in 2011 after an indifferent year in 2010 in his first season having moved to Michael Owen/Andrew Black's training establishment in Cheshire. 2010 debut runners lacking the usual readiness which saw a better than 20% FTO Strike Rate in 2007/9. VGG cheaply retained having been bred by Black and presume an attempt to get a win out of her early. Ready and competent but blown away by the one more substantial filly in the race despite getting an easy lead. Likely to lack much scope and need to win soon. First evidence that the Dascombe 2yos might be more tuned FTO though, he has another ready sprint type running tomorrow at NEWC to give further evidence. Xyzzy smaller and neat and probably struggle to be OR60 by season end. Stubbs' in a period of starting a number of competitive ones and this one not the better end. |
