SUMMARY
GFG going produced by watering but no details given. Going Stick at 8.1 at 08:15 with a misty & damp morning prior to the meeting. Medium Breeze as a Three-quarter Headwind from the Left.

Brian Meehan on his website day before about Maroosh = "Promising sort, showing plenty of speed on his recent debut here in a Class 4 maiden . This is a grade lower and as he works well, he must have a great chance as he will know more about it today."

Hannon on his Website the day before the race = "The pair of two-year-olds we run in the auction maiden will both improve for moving up to six furlongs. Hughesie rides Minal, which the locals call Marlborough, the town in which owner Barry Bull lives, but Leenavesta (Jimmy Fortune) also ran well on her debut at Windsor and there would not be a lot between them."

Barry Hills website news for w/b 30th May = "It's a quiet Bank Holiday Monday for us with only Zammy taking part at Goodwood. He got a serious case of stage fright on his first run at Newbury, getting very worked up in the preliminaries. Hopefully he should have come on for that and will be more relaxed this time, allowing himself to run his race as he is a nice horse."

Pace not frantic but strong and contested with TBaby adding some pace when pulling to the lead. Halfway positions to final show how the prominent racers mostly broke up and the first two home came from 5L+ and 4L back at halfway and made that ground back in stages with minor progress versus the leaders 2f to 1f but then closing up quite quickly late on as the fading set in.

Trainer Perrett chooses 2-3 compet 2yos to start each year and they usually finish 3rd-5th in larger fields if they are ok OR75+ and compete to win STO. Typically anonymous effort from jockey Dobbs to get from 3rd rank+ to lead close home in the manner he has done on a number of Hannon 2yos over the years. Dobbs riding for this stable with Fortune on the Hannon 2nd string. Impossible to imagine a Hills twin or Spencer picking their way through the traffic quite with so little alarm. SirG an ok size and a notably correct and straight mover. Ok for OR75+.

Lethal Force finished second but demoted to 3rd for bumping Minal late on. Better run than the final result suggests and did a number of things wrong. Ran too freely for much of the first 3f in the leading line. Fought off one set of challengers from 2f to inside 1f out and then still responding and battling when the second wave of deeper closers challenged late. Did best of the pacemakers as the halfway positions show. Ok for OR75+.

PAJoy sat settled in 2R and seemed to be going well enough to compete to win 2f out. Never really moving forward in the final 2F effort and not raining the expected effort. But, never fading and perhaps feeling something. Left the impression he can do better if he moved properly later on. Both Leenavesta & Marygold challenging for the lead 2f out to inside 1f out after prominent runs and the final fades hide that. Maroosh not a taking type and in the right group in this Auction field. Ran closest to the rail overall and perhaps an issue. But, started hanging as soon as asked for a effort and a tame response and not one to support on that.

Probably enough pace to spread the field out by ability but some excuses in behind. Gifted Dancer a solidly built girl for 5k and not really carrying her weight yet. Lacking a strong jockey to organise her and rolling right from halfway. Has the power and size to do better and be competitive in auctions given her low price. Zammy again awash with sweat at the start and presumably still too worked up. Ran a bit too freely early and a Hills twin made a conspicuous job of trying to hold him. Alongside the runner-up and 2L in fron of the winner when the efforts started to 2F out so well placed to get involved but just an okish effort until fading. Can rate higher when he settles down mentally. Saffron Park never put in the race by the jockey so unable to judge what he can do on this effort.

[UPDATE =Barry Hills Website News for w/b June 6th = "..also had their two year old Zammy run during the week. He has definitely learnt from his first run at Newbury, was much better behaved before the race and subsequently ran well. He is coming along all the time and Michael said he is very willing so hopefully you'll see him in the winners enclosure soon. " ]
