SUMMARY
Note the following = "Track has been cultivated to depth of 140mm to rejuvenate the fibre and wax content. We anticipate returning to standard going for racing, but it may ride on the slow side for a period of time." Light to Medium Breeze as a Three-Quarter Tailwind from the right in the Back Straight and a Three-Quarter Headwind from the Left in the Home Straight.

Roger Charlton on his Website news = "Excavator runs .. at Kempton where I hope he will have a good chance although I notice that the unraced Mitie Mouse is bred to have plenty of speed and cost £50,000 at the recent mid April Kempton breeze up sales, so should be respected. His form at Bath has been endorsed by the winner B Fifty Two winning a Novice at Newmarket and the 3rd horse Verbeeck finishing 2nd at Leicester last week and 4th horse Selinda won the seller at Yarmouth yesterday. "

Slow Conditions because of the track work but this seemed a slow time even given that. Jockey Moore on Excavator dropped the pace around the bend and turned the race into a sprint in the straight. The five larger males finishing in a smallish heap and no real separation and all still going forward at the finish. A result not to be read literally because of the lack of pace and not spreading the horses out. Even given a short start and controlling the pace Excavator unable to hold off Mitie Mouse (first 2yo winner for trainer). Bought at the March Breeze Up sales at this track and a very strong and neatly made LM sprinter. Ok as OR77-82.

Lupo D'Oro travelled well in a straight track tear-up on grass FTO and faded over 6f. Mentally young and not tuned in during the prelims. Travelled and railed ok but then took time to produce his full effort in the straight and blocke din behind the first two. Pulled out late and going on at the finish but in a slow race. Not a good set-up for him and a slightly lesser type than the winner. Percythepinto an ok size but taller and narrow and not an obvious 5f type. Able to finish relatively close up aided by the slower race.

[UPDATE = Roger Charlton on his Website = "I thought I had found the most suitable race for Excavator at Kempton yesterday having made several entries during the week but unfortunately, he ran into a colt that was too good for us. He ran and behaved well and there were no real excuses except that we felt that he might be better suited to a faster surface. Hopefully we will find a race that he can win over the next few weeks." ]
