SUMMARY
£10k Bonus Race

Note the following = "Track has been cultivated to depth of 140mm to rejuvenate the fibre and wax content. We anticipate returning to standard going for racing, but it may ride on the slow side for a period of time." Light to Medium Breeze as a Three-Quarter Tailwind from the right in the Back Straight and a Three-Quarter Headwind from the Left in the Home Straight.

Hannon on his website = "We run two in the six furlong maiden there. Tina's Spirit was getting the hang of things late on when finishing fourth on her debut at Salisbury, suggesting that this six furlongs is just what she wants, but we also like the Moss Vale filly, Essexvale"

Meehan on his website wrt Hidden Passion "A very nice .. filly who goes very well at home. She should run a big race but may just need the outing. "

Roger Charlton on his website wrt Sea Of Light = "she is a tough filly who runs with blinkers on and it will be interesting to see how she runs."

Fule 4 deduction of 35p/£.

Notably Slow Time and pretty slow even given the track work. Only 3 races run slower in the 102 juvenile races at 6f since the Polytrack opened. Those three run in the 75.88s to 76.29s range. Those three slowest races run in late May, early June & early July and JUNE seems the best month to get slow times (perhaps the month they do the track repair work). However, the previous ten slowest times all go back to 2006-8 period.

Another "Clown's Car" race where bits of quality were falling away from early on. The one NR a solid filly who ran placed yesterday and would have helped to bind the race together. Favourite Lemon Rock looking well muscled up and ready for the day and Ryan Moore riding. But, completed a poor evening for the jockey in 2yo races having been beaten on the odds-on fav in the first of them. LR reared up and unseated Moore behind the stalls with most of the others loaded. Caught down by the 8f start and the field allowed to go without her. Hidden Passion seemed to be expected to be a better quality Meehan debut (typically only come from Listed+ quality) and you would presume she had been working with Shumoos to warrant the confidence & support. But, lost her action before the bend and Pulling Up entering it. 3 other fillies got tailed off and never got involved and More Is To Come (perhaps a better or at least solid Beckett FTO) end up running 3-4 wide around the bend and that did for her. Which only left 5 fillies really in the race and Represent seemed to set too stiff a pace for the conditions and the ones that chased her faded badly and rolled home. Which meant that Hawfinch as a typically uncompetitive debut was able to plug through for a 25/1 win in the last 1F without ever being involved. She is a bigger filly but seemed to have a stroppy attitude and took a long time to be loaded. Also spooky in the winners' enclosure. You imagine Gosden was hoping she would get round in the ruck without decking anyone or causing problems and would have been happy but the race falls apart in front of a usable physical type. This the first Gosden 6f debut after a break from a rancid one in early May. The batch he would introduce over the next 2 weeks or so would typically be made up of a mixed group of Winners (up to lower OR80s) and Non-Winners none of whom would be likely to place. In the group there would be at least one better one (Showcasing in 2009) who would compete to win on ability.

Difficult race to asses and Essexvale ought to be better and a bigger and stronger physical type than the OR60s Tina's Spirit. More Is to Come worth following STO after no chance with the trip she got her but moved well enough.

[UPDATE = Roger Charlton on his Website = "Sea of Light who can be a bit of a monkey behaved exceptionally well but ran rather slowly having been well placed for the first half of the race. She did not really enjoy the kickback, so we will give her another go on the turf as soon as she is ready. " ]
