GFG Going with watering despite 9mm rain previous Thur and 12mm on Mon with light drizzle at some other times. Using Outer 5f Course & Stalls Stands' Side. Going Stick 8.4 reading on Mon [UPDATE] = at 8.2 by 12:30 on the Day.. Medium Breeze as a Three-Quarter Headwind from the right. Picture of mid-race = Picture Field raced on stands' rail with BM a good break and leading on the rail attended by BB within a neck. MOA sloppy attitude in prelims and sloppy pick-up and lost 2l+. Had to be niggled along at various intervals and hanging left, or offering to, for most of the race and 5L back at halfway. Justineo looking into next stall when gates opened and jockey M Hills seemed as surprised as the horse (with 40+ years less excuse...) & probably lost 4L and out of the race with the leading pair away doing their 'bit of work' together. Got going ok but a bit green at times and then also offering to hang left at times. Got tired in the last 0.5F and jockey Hills nearly lost 3rd on the line by more inattentiveness. Perhaps needs to spend less time counting his money. Dascombe post race noted that Bear Behind was entered for the 6f Listed Woodcote Stakes 4 days later and the 5f £20k Conditions race at Musselburgh on the same day. Said that he had not intended to run BB at FOLK or here. But at FOLK he did not want to let the USA horse have a walkover and here he didn't want to let Haggas have a W/O. Still considering the options but felt the best path probably to miss both of the Saturday races and go straight to Royal Ascot and the Listed Windsor Castle. His feeling was why win the Musselburgh race and finish 4th at Ascot with the edge taken off the horse. Would prefer to have the best chance to win at Ascot. Said that this win paid a big compliment to Gentlemans Code. Said that Pyman's Theory would be entered for the Norfolk Stakes as well as the Queen Mary because he felt that the fillies were perhaps a stronger group at present. |
