Rod Millman's website = "..we have Ivor’s Princess in the maiden. Slow to get going on her debut, she finished nicely at Warwick and should be much sharper today. It’s a competitive race but she too has a chance of picking up some prize money."

Race played out in a somewhat peculiar manner and explainable by two different approaches although probably some element of both. Three of the fillies met at WDSR with Balm on STO and Miss Lahar & Luv U Forever on debut. There final finishing positions there changed here and mostly understandable. Balm smaller and non-progressive and showed her best at WDSR. Luv U Forever produced a better effort than her that day to get from 7th at halfway to challenege her for 2nd before getting tired. She also race wider of the rail. A strongly built sprinter LUF had more potential to improve than Balm and able to get a lead her and produce a better effort again and Balm unable to make any ground. Miss Lahar has similar potential but seemed to spoil her performance here by one of the longest bouts of FFH (fighting for head in trying to avoid being held up) recorded this season. Probably went on from 0.5f until the jockey asked for the final effort 2f+ out in some form. Miss Lahar holding her head notably high to try to avoid the bit pressure and getting unbalanced. Not a surprise to see her make a so-so effort and be unable to make ground. Mount Mcleod also a frantic puller for an extended period and folded quickly.

Which meant the final positions between those fillies explainable and Miss Lahar capable of better if she ever settles. Rod Millman has developed a fascinating record with 2yos and entirely different to what it was 5 years ago. The debuts tend to be clueless and the horses then blossom STO (or 3TO if very green and/or wild on debut) and can compete to win at any odds. BUT, the winners (most of them) each year seem to develop from the early batch of 5f debuts. This group has already produced longer priced place blossomers with Meloneras & Night Angel. Ivor's Princess borderline having made her debut a bit late and over 5.5f but another, very fit, STO blossomer showing what she can do. Her run eas interesting becaus eit seemed to highlight a peculiarity in how the race played out. The winner raced close to the far rail for most of the race and IPrincess ran right against it. For some reason the other four jockeys ended up racing well away fromt he rail. When the final efforts were made towards 2F out IP went past the four wider out to close up to LUF. The four wide appearing to be making hard work of it together. Possible that two of them were knackered from the pulling and Balm no better, or perhaps worse, than LUF & IP anyway. Xinbama no very good but faded even earlier than he did last time. The 'Percy Jackson' race at the course appeared to fall apart in the same way with the far rail 'Live' and racing away from it looking like treacle. [Check some other races..]
