GFG with Going Stick at 8.5 at 10:00 Sat. Rails at innermost configuration. Stiff to Strong Breeze as a Half Headwind from the right Downhill then a half Tailwind from the Right in the straight. Hannon on his Website = " Unique is probably one of the nicer adjectives trainers use when describing Epsom, so it was no surprise when Richard Hannon opted not to run any of his three entries for tomorrow's Woodcote Stakes." Race with a mixed record and often involves a group for whom this is their highlight and they are actually precocious types short of Listed quality overall. 2009 a typical edition with a 12 runner field producing just 4 later wins at 2yo with one at claimer level and the best at a weak conditions level. A mixed group of OR75-89 types. The 2010 edition untypical and relatively strong with the 2nd-4th producing 1 x Group winner and 3 x Conditions level with the runner-up - Dubawi Gold - improving at 3yo to be competing at Group 1 level. This Group, lacking a Hannon rep, looked lesser quality and hard to think that any of the runners, aside from perhaps Fulbright have loner term significance about novice & nursery level. Fast conditions with a tailwind meant that the prominent racers had the normal advantage. First three after 1f+ effectively fighting the finish out and a subtlety in that the two widest draws able to get to the lead with litle effort. Fulbright talked up by the trainer he said he knew this horse was right for this race because he showed enough pace to sit with 5f horse LTO (so get prominent here) and had been staying on strongest at finish. Said he would now run him in the Coventry Stakes. Looks short of quality of the best for that unless he has further improvement. Stan Moore apparently going to have a 'Day Out' at the Coventry with Evervescent who managed to get 2nd by running a competent race in the ideal manner, prominent and close tot he race. Couldn't match the efforts of the first 2 and got to 2nd by sticking at it to the line while OTDS not getting home and fading late. Usual mix behind these 5 with some cementhead efforts from jockeys. How do they think they are going to reel in horses down this straight with a tailwind byt giving them a 3-8L head start? As soon as you hauled your horses back in early race you gave up any chance of winning the race. CNetcher 8.5L off the lead at halfway and then not handling the camber so trundling home in a non-involved 4th. Gave up any chance of winning LTO by giving the leader a headstart. Probably borderline for Conditions level quality but give the horse a chance to prove it one way of another. PBanu a slowish start but ran competently on the rail afterwards and ran to her level and hampered by her pony size and no scope to improve. HSCool has looked best on straight tracks allowed to lead. Unable to get to the lead here and then failed to handle the hill or the camber once in the straight. Norse Gold in a prominent position early but Fallon decided it was time to haul him back and the horse started pulling hard. Got too far back, fought the jockey and then hanging a bit in the straight so an early fade. Another who can do better and is Fallon making more mistakes then usual. |
