SUMMARY
Race more than 5 minutes late off - No obvious reason & all five horses loaded with no trouble.

Very slow time = What was the reason for that? Umph setting a slow pace? If so, the front two failing to see out the 5f fully seems a poor effort. Only slower times, since 2002, by Thunder Bay in early April 2007 and an awful seller in early May 2004. Those two races prouced a grand total of 2 later winners from 16 horses (Thunder Bay won again and his runner up improved in condition to win 4TO before getting thumped in lots of later runs). In the Thunder Bay race the two solid physical types, in context of the early race got from 3rd/4th at halfway despite the slow time, overhauling rabbits. Which all means the runners in this race are going to need very good excuses if they are gong to produce much in the way of subsequent winners.

Expected punt on a Quinlan trained STO but came very late. JH a small, ready sprinter (say OR60 if he stayed) who failed to get 5f at Doncaster and not seeming to stay the downhill 5f here either. So, unable to make any progress on Umph who seemed to get an easy lead but also not seeing out the full 5f and stalling late on. Both that pair raced down the far side while DL raced on the preferred centre strip AFTER she had to switch right when initially being asked to make her effort in the straight between the leading pair. Another apparent punt on the Gannon ridden Evans rep but Si Sealy, although a slightly better type then Umph, never looking to get involved and not really a 5f pedigree. EF running for a trainer who tends to front load his competitive 2yos in the earliest debuts and regularly gets placed debuts with them. But, this one a real negative on attitude before the race, sloppy and green and not looking like a racehorse. Lost ground at the start but able to get onto the back of the group downhill probably aided by the slower pace. But, then what looked like a bit of amateur hour acting in the straight. Pretending to be doing something while letting her drift home in last. Worth a check STO to see what her attitude is. Wearing a high seated shadow roll here so perhaps not straightforward overall.

Worth noting that at this stage the Brocklesby looks a suspect race. The time was slow and the way the last pair at halfway finished 3rd & 6th perhaps suggests a stiff pace causing the moderate overall time. Triggelo finished 6th off a green run and a disappointment in Paddock Review at Nottingham and perhaps low OR70s and ran that way with the (umpteen) connections notably downbeat and clearly expecting better. Joey Hayes here doing nothing to suggest the midfield of that race any good. The first two from Doncaster are presumably ok as OR75-85 types and the third (CStar) perhaps the most promising of the field. The fourth (TGDCom) probably a key horse to test the theory that the race is suspect. Can he win an open maiden comfortably STO in the way a solid Brocklesby 4th should? The 5th is probably the wrong side of the Changeover point. Of those behind the Fahey trained Our Boy Jack clearly ran too freely and can do much better. The filly in 7th is worth tracking at a lower level and perhaps over 6f.
