SUMMARY
£10k Bonus Race.

GSG with 1.5mm of rain on Thu. Going Stick at 7.3 at 8:45am. Very Light Breeze as a Headwind.

Hannon on his Website = "El Diamante makes her debut against colts in the opener at Sandown. She cost 200,000 Euros at Deauville and is a lovely filly, and she did a nice piece of work on the all-weather at Herridge on Wednesday and is ready to roll."

Rain softened going and a puzzling race in a number of ways. Pace did not look frantic and the time slower than any of the 25 races in 2009-10 and than the previous 3 this year including one on GGS going (but with a notably different Going Stick reading). Forget about the others and just think about the first 4 through halfway and it could read as an ordinary 2F effort race off the end of a solid pace.

Dream Whisperer a nippy filly allowed to dictate the pace near the rail. Produced a solid kick at 2F out which had Verbeeck unable to reel her in and just hold her lead to 1.5L until inside the last 1F when she started to slow. He outstayed her and then was getting tired and fading late on himself. Backtrade had got unbalanced at times on debut and similar here. Went ok when the pace was comfortable for him but niggled along and not reacting smoothly when put under pressure. The 2F out kick too much for him but stuck at it. But then got unbalanced inside the last 1F and probably would have faded in the last 0.5f anyway even it not hampered against the rail by DW. Mister Musicmaster smaller and limited and able to raise a brief effort in centre track 2F out but fading by 1F out. Which meant none of those 4 finished the race off fully so perhaps the pace was more taxing than it looked?

The story told by the Halfway positions to Final Placings hint at the issue with a mix of prominent racers and deep closers mixed up. The way the closers were making up ground on the faders in the last 0.5F made it look like the end of a multi-way Pace war. The best example being Whinging Willie who had been around 15L adrift at halfway and still well off the back towards the last 1f. With the jockey very active he got into the faders 0.5f out and still going on at the line and beyond the winner less than 0.5f past the line and the jockey struggling to hld him up. A smaller type and a good question how much value to place on the 'promise' of his finish.

In summary. DW showed the kick her ethat perhaps got the connections to support her FTO. In a fillies race or a less stiff test that should see her compete to win below Open Maiden level. Verbeeck a stong, bulky type and ran a bit too free here. Not looking the full 5F type and only just lasting home. Has the scope to develop and be competitive in Nurseries around OR85. OFRome a likeable, athletic, type and might well have won as the best placed 'Closer' and on the rail but for getting trapped in until intot he last 1F. Solid finish and an ok size. Ought to be able to win OR75+. EDiamante given a sloppy & disinterested ride by Hughes as if he decided early to wait for STO after a slower star. Which meant the horse got him to 4th without him moving. Make Hughes as active as the jockey on WW and he would have been a closing 3rd, at least. Solid build but not proven yet. Backtrade still needs to develop to carry his speed properly given the instability. Presume WW some sort of winner over further but size perhaps limiting for quality level. 7th-10f finishers racing away from the rail so perhaps a negative but mostly seemed smaller types and fading because lacking ability. At least check Lulla NTO as she was given a very quiet intro and got a bit blocked by the faders.
