Good Going with Going Stick at 7.6 on Thu = UPDATE = or error? 6mm of rain overnight and 34mm total since the last Meeting. Light to Medium Breeze as a Headwind. Pace too strong with leading pair pressing on together and 2.5L clear of the 3rd to halfway and with the 4th to 7th at 4L to 6.5L back. Leading pair fading by the last 1F and well beaten. Triggerlo not looked straightforward in previous runs and sometime niggled along and powder puff finishes. Seemed to pack it in LTO and no reason apparently found. Back after a break and pressed on to get him involved but fading a bit early even given the pace considering he was reacting to the small Purple Angel hassling him. Either needs to grow up and develop a bit to win or find a set-up which allows him to win ugly at a moderate level. Essentially a closely matched bunch of below Open Maiden class and with little ability to overcome issues and inefficiencies. PACE played a big part here in deciding which horse in from when the music stopped. With a lot of headwinds this season this race along with the following Novice have meant the last 5 races here across 4 meetings have produced 3 x wins for the 6th through halfway, one for the 4th and one for the front-runner (who just repelled the 5th placed halfway closer. A lot of limited types not able to judge paces and finish races off. The Halfway positions to final show how the pace broke up the first three through halfway and left the race between the 4th-7th through. Three of these within 0.5L of each other at the finish and plugging on at similar paces and Bertorella not finishing the race off having been mulish TP and run a bit too free and wide. With Misred Melissa small and clueless and adrift early, Ernest Speak a bit bigger but utterly clueless and Best In Show also a bit green and slow and unable to make any worthwhile challenge in the later stages the race beacme a Three-Filly 'war'. If you knew 7 of the horses were too stupid, mulish (known) or would kill themselves by pressing on up front then 33/1 about the two fillies in 1st & 2nd would look ridiculous. Fanrouge a typical winner for trainer Saunders who runs a set of cheaper fillies each year and usually finds one capable of winning. Unless better class they tend to win 3-4TO with development. Fanrouge green and fading when asked for an effort in a weak race FTO. Better effort than the '9th' looked STO in a pace with a much wilder pace than this one. Got involved and did a few things wrong with a slow start and getting unbalanced on CHEP's barrels. Jockey here told to 'bury her' away awhich he did an dthat suited the race shape and she cut out the other problems. Able to produce enough of an effort to beat two similar fillies. Musical Valley a bit taller in the group and has travelled like close to the best horse in both previous runs and run prominently. But, then folded quickly and did not produce the efforts expected. As with Fanrouge a change of tactics here and buried away in 7th nearly 7L off the lead and able to produce a relatibe finish with that run style in this race shape. Nude just ran ok and supported as if she whould be a usable one at this level for the trainer. Bertorella another tricky project like Triggerlo having been clueless on debut then got involved in the pace war well in front of Fanrouge STO. Dropped the jockey TP here then took some time to be part led and coaxed to the start. One to check for signs of calming down in nurseries where she could find a usable opportunity. |
