SUMMARY
£10k Bonus Race

GF going with Going Stick 8.1 reading. Dry week preceding with 5mm of watering on each of Mon/Wed/Thu & the last 3F 4mm on Fri. Medium Breeze as a Tailwind for 2F then a Crosswind from the left for 1F+ and a Headwind for 1.5f+ in the straight.Rail out to some extent and add 10yds to this race distance

Hannon on his website wrt Shere Khan = "ran really well at Leicester and looks to be maturing all the time, and, though you can pick holes in the form and he might want another furlong, he is not short of speed, though he can sometimes miss the kick and he won't want to be doing that around here."

Unusual result in at least two major ways. Newcomers winning 2yo races here a rarity and horses drawn 10 of 10 winning in any race on firmer going uncommon. Cause of that unusual outcome presumably a mix of factors. Firstly, the bulk of this field with previous runs are below Open Maiden level and OR64-73 types and always vulnerable to a solid newcomer. The one possible one for OR75+ in Miss Lahar refused to be loaded and badly drawn anyway.

Those previous runners then went a bit too hard and the bulk of them ran too freely or too wide of the rail, or both. Courtland King has looked a short runner and in his previous 5 races he has led or pressed the pace 3 times and always faded later. Held up in 4th & 8th in the other two runs he has produced so-so finishes and not been able to get to the leader. Drawn 1 here he was always going to go forward here and ran his typical race. Stuck to the rail well when making his effort and got clear. But then fading in the last 2f on this extended 5f (plus another 10yds which might have cost him 2nd..). Kool Henry smaller but usable but too fizzy and wound up here. Hung right badly when trying to make the 2F out kick and carried the OR60s filly Blodwen Abbey wide. KH then plugged on to pick up CK late but this pair setting a sub OR70 standard. Shere Khan's LEIC 3rd LTO relied on missing the pace then plugging on late for a possible Volunteer 3rd and over-rated. That niggle perhaps showing in the Hannon website comment since they clearly know how good he really is. No excuses for SKhan here and ran the rail and didn't hang when the efforts went but unable to find a kick to get involved and medium size. Another placer type. Others with previous runs lesser types and ran away from the rail. Newcomer Prince Gabrial worth another chance to show what he can do but running around like an idiot at the start and clueless in the race.

Which meant the 'cast' that Big Note had to beat was not that strong. He missed the break and was green but the jockey did the right thing in dropping onto the rail in 3R. When the efforts went inside the last 2F the hanging right meant he got to 2nd just by railing well and making an ok effort. He then was left with the job of getting past short-runner CK. Took until 0.5f out to do this but then showed athletic movement and a pretty good finish. Just a medium type and not that powerful but a good mover. Winning FTO here can often show a better type but not obvious Big Note is that although a solid looking time.
