£10k Bonus Race Going officially Good at 7:20am but rain due to arrive before racing. 15mm of watering applied Tues-Weds, 10mm Thu and 5mm on Sat. 9mm of rail on Friday and 1mm on Saturday. Going Stick at 6.5 at 7:00am. Rain arrived before the meeting started and the going changed to GS after this race. Medium to Stiff Breeze as a Crosswind from the left. Brian Meehan on his website wrt Sandbetweenourtoes = "Excellent fourth on debut in a decent race at Newmarket. Eased in class and has a very good chance." Michael Bell on his website news for June 8th commenting on the 2-horse piece of work done by Sovereign Debt (See - Picture - with SD on the far side going more comfortably than the, bigger?, horse on the near side) = "Sovereign Debt looks to have come on well from his run and looked impressive here. He was joined by Exceedexpectations who continues to progress in the right direction." Second winner in two days from Race 137 at NMKT. But, in both wins there have been two reps from that race involved. Here, Sovereign Debt was well behind SBOToes on debut at NMKT. But, Race 137 an object lesson in how understanding the pace of a race is vital to understanding the final positions and the potential for the future. The NMKT race a muddling, slowly run one with lots of horses finishing in a heap. A moderate to average horse that got to a prominent position in that race could finish close up because of the lack of pace. Yesterday, Swiss Spirit finished miles ahead of Verse Of Love in a YORK maiden having been just ahead of that one at NMKT. THe YORK race had a stiff pace and the real disparity in ability was revealed. SBOT got an easy time in front rank FTO at NMKT so his form was unproved and a soft favourite. Sovereign Debt at least as promising and had excuses for not finishing closer. Jockey Spencer intereviewed here said that SDebt had been hampered at NMKT and this had not been picked up (Check) and the jockey had then 'looked after him' (= not ridden him out). Given the positive work info freely available no surprise to see him backed here. SBOT presumably ran below form to some level but an incorrect reading of the NMKT race to expect him to win here and/pr beat Sovereign Debt. Spencer further said that the horse had not picked up as quickly as he expected inside 2F out and had really got going in the last 1F and he though he needed 7F already. A big field but a wide range of abilities and enough pace to spread the horses out by ability with the CP behind the front two and the GG somwhere around Louis Hull. Although some bigger types in the faders who ran too freely and might be recyclable. Balti's Sister perhaps a suspect looking 100/1 close up but a positive in Review as a shorter, solidly built sprinter with some body length and athletic. Fizzy in prelims and an enthusiast at present and a ok type for sneaking over OR70. Chapter Seven medium and mentally young and OR68-72 type. Started hanging badly left after halfway and Hanagan stood up trying to stop it. Some response once going straight 1f out. Festival Spirit racing wide with him to halfway and veered off uncontollably left before him (like watching the Red Arrows peel away..) and faded and eased because of that. Typical free-running Johnston debut which can fall aprat at any moment. Talwar as long as 10/1 on his intended 5f debut when he panicked in the stalls. 6f here and again a relatively long SP for a Noseda FTO. Given a deep hold-up ride and drop back out ofd contention in stages. Just a so-so effort to get to 6th before a late fade. Had been working with Illaunglass who won FTO at a short SP so this one less good presumably. Laffan a longer SP in a period when trainer Ryan has started out a number of good ones and has produced a raft of FTO winners entirely out of his normal pattern. So, Laffan presumably not a better on but seemed to show much more than the 8th in moderate ruck suggests. Ran too free at times but made a zippy move at 2F+ out (much smoother than the winner) that got him to 3rd when the full efforts went 2F out. Not finishing the race off hides that. Might be of interest and perhaps back to 5f in an easier race. Both McCabe runners given quiet rides and allowed to fade early. Presumably moderate types or this some Nursery plan with either of them? Track how Samasana develops when up in trip. Check what the issue is with Grippa. |
