GGS going after rain the previous Sunday. Going Stick at 8:15am as THREE Reading with Stands' Side 9.2, Centre 9.6 & Far Side 9.0. Light Breeze as a Half Headwind in the Straight. Stalls Centre. Note that as a RH Course the Draw Numbering have switched over. Higher Draws now towards Stands' Side. Earlier races had suggested Stands Side faster. As in the Coventry Stakes the field Split into Two Group with a smaller set of 9 Racing wide of Centre led by Gentleman's Code. His jockey took him over to join the Stands' Side clear leader Es Que Love around halfway. EQL running down the stands' rail with the first three home in a stack of three behind him at hallfway within 2 lanes of the rail. Fast time compared to the earlier Group 1 King's Stand and less than 0.5s slower than that event with similar weights. The winner here racing stands' side here with Prohibit winning the Group 1 racing more towards centre track. ------------------------- Pre-Race Quotes --------------------------- Hannon on his website including the claim that the lack of a kick 2F out at SDWN LTO by Magic City was because of the softer going = "Magic City has been expensive to follow since won in fast time on his debut at Newbury, but, like Hughesie, I have still got a lot of faith in the horse. Getting him to settle has been the priority, and he switched off lovely in the National Stakes at Sandown, but he floundered in the rain-softened ground, so I hope that it dries up a bit. "He needs to be buried in the pack, so the big field is a plus, and, while he will need the breaks, Hughesie reckons that he compares favourably with Zebedee, who won six races for us last year, so you have to give him a solid chance. We also run Wolfgang for Andrew Tinkler. He only won at Chepstow and would look to have a mountain to climb, but, though only small, he has bags of pace, which you need in this race." Meehan on his website wrt Ballesteros = "most recently behind two highly-rated newcomers, when he had a troubled run before staying on well. Deserves his place at this level and could go well at a big price" Channon on his website wrt Arnold Lane = "We're on eggshells at the moment as he's got a bruised foot and we will be forced to sit and suffer overnight and see how he is in the morning. He's in the Norfolk on Thursday just in case. It's nothing serious but he has to be spot on tomorrow - we are talking about Royal Ascot after all. A potentially class act who is drawn in stall 24. Again, who knows if that's a positive?" Fahey on his Sporting Life website blog = "There's not a lot between Lexington Spirit and Worthington in the Windsor Castle Stakes. They've both got to step up on what they've achieved too. Worthington did well to win first time out and she's come on a tonne, I'm sure she'll run well. Lexington Spirit won a bad race the other day making all but that's the last thing I'd want to do with her in this race. She's a very fast filly that needs cover so at least the race will be run to suit. I've been going through the race, though, and it's very tough. If we can get placed with anything on Tuesday I'll be delighted." Noseda on his website wrt Monnoyer = "I am happy with him. He looks like he has a solid draw in eight. I'm going to fit him with a visor as he has appeared to me to have been floating around in his racing. 'The visor will sharpen him up and he will like a bit of juice in the ground.' " Tom Dascombe on a small message service around noon = "Bear Behind has improved since Nott'ham and hoping the track has dried out by this race. Unsure about the draw but hopeful of a good run..." |
